Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) the states owned telecom organization launches its latest 4^th generation wireless broadband technology named as WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave access) initiating with Ajmer in Rajasthan.  While BSNL launches it in more than 200 base stations in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

The WiMAX, Wireless Broadband Technology offers a speed of 7Mbps at the distance of 15kms. This unequal and unparalleled high speed WiMAX technology providing with extended features like video conferencing, tele education and enabling tele-medicine along with other services like vehicle registration, payment of utility bills land records, issue of birth certification and many more.. BSNL is presenting this service in rural areas at an initial tariff of Rs 140 per month. This latest 4^th generation wireless broadband technology working in 2.5 GHz band. This exclusive WiMAX Technology has been deployed for the very first time in our country.

The complete budget of the project is estimating of Rs 225 crore besides BSNL had already used up around 1,200 crore for rural WiMAX.  The BSNL WiMAX technology broadband services will be launched in around 1,000 block headquarters crosswise the nation very soon. The WiMAX technology will grant high speed wireless broadband connectivity to almost 11,500 common service centers in individual blocks and in the next phase BSNL planned to cover remaining block headquarters for connecting 50,000 common service centers..
